The Ghanaian Division Two League outfit have decided to name their home venue after the late Chelsea and Newcastle United winger.

President of Cheetah FC, Abdul Hayye Yartey has confirmed that the club's home grounds would be named after former Ghana international Christian Atsu, who passed away earlier this month following the tragic earthquake in Turkey.

Atsu was a victim of the earthquake incident which claimed the lives of thousands humans in Turkey and Syria. His mortal remains arrived in Ghana on Monday for a state burial.

Cheetah FC is the boyhood club of Christian Atsu where he was transferred to Portuguese side FC Porto during the 2009/10 season.

“He was happy to see Cheetah move forward and too see our new astroturf. He came around to grace the occasion when we were commissioning it," Hayye Yartey said.

"I had plans to surprise him when our grass pitch was ready and then eventually name it after him but my thoughts are not that of God as it my plans couldn’t bear fruits in his presence. With or without him, we will continue to honor him by naming the pitch after him,”

Before Atsu's demise, the 31-year-old pacey winger was plying his trade for Turkish top-tier club Hatayspor FK.

Atsu made 65 appearances for the senior national team of Ghana, nothing up nine goals for the West African nation.
