Ghana coach Chris Hughton refused to announce his first-choice goalkeeper for the crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers first leg tie against Angola this evening.
Hughton remained tight-lipped on the Black Stars no.1 for the all-important fixture during the final press conference for the match in Kumasi.
The four-time Africa Cup of Nations title holders will be hosting the Palancras Negras of Angola in the first leg tie of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations double-header on March 23 before travelling to Luanda for the reverse fixture on March 27.
With three goalkeepers called by the former Brighton and Hove Albion tactician for the qualification round of the next edition of Africa Cup of Nations, he believes his decision on the first-choice will live up to expectations in today's game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
“The answer is, we have a team and a squad that are all working hard for positions and what will happen is that over the period of tonight and tomorrow, I will name my team so at the moment there wouldn’t be anybody apart from my close technical staff who will know what the team is,” Hughton told the media
Charlton Athletic shot-stopper Joseph Wollacott has returned to the squad having missed out on the 2022 World Cup through injury.
St. Gallen shot-stopper Lawrence Ati Zigi filled in the gap for the Charlton Athletic man, keeping the post for Ghana in all three matches in Qatar last year but conceded seven goals at the tournament.
Abdul Manaf Nurudeen of KAS Eupen after establishing himself as a great penalty stopper in the Kirin Cup last year remains hopeful ahead of the clash.
