Chris Hughton, the coach of the Black Stars, has revealed that he utilized his previous role as a Technical Advisor to gain access to the team and identify a committed and passionate group of players.

Hughton was initially in contention for the role of head coach following the dismissal of Milovan Rajevac, but ultimately accepted the position of technical advisor. Otto Addo was appointed as head coach, with George Boateng and Did Dramani serving as assistant coaches. During this time, the Black Stars played a total of 12 matches, including three World Cup games.

Hughton explained that his previous role provided him with a more comprehensive perspective of the team, which allowed him to see the overall atmosphere and speak to many players. He noted that throughout this period, he observed the players' eagerness to perform well and their commitment to achieving success for the Black Stars.

“Yes, I do. I have been fortunate enough to be involved for a year now, particularly when you are not the head coach. It allows you to have a more comprehensive view,” he told Supersport.

“As Otto was the head coach, it was more specific to the team, tactics, training, and getting results. I was able to look at the bigger picture, the overall atmosphere, and speak to many players. Throughout that period, I saw the players’ eagerness to do well, and their dedication to achieving results for the Black Stars.”

Following an unsuccessful World Cup campaign, Otto Addo stepped down as head coach, and Chris Hughton took over. He has since managed two games, earning four points against Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
