Stephen Appiah, a former Ghanaian international football player, is supporting the current Black Stars team in their quest to end the country's 41-year trophy drought.

Despite coming close to winning the continental title in 2010 and 2015, Ghana has not won a major trophy since 1982.

Appiah, who captained the team to their first World Cup qualification in 2006, expressed his desire to have won a trophy with Ghana but pledged his support to the current generation.

In an interview with Sompa FM, he emphasized the need to motivate and support the team to achieve success.

"We will still be there and support our brothers who are playing today. We will motivate them because, at the end of the day, we are all Ghanaians. Although we couldn't win one, it doesn't mean we have to be against them winning,” he said.

The Black Stars will resume their campaign for the AFCON qualifiers in June, with games against Central Africa Republic and Madagascar.
