Former president of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, recently shared his thoughts on the Save Ghana Football demonstration, expressing his disagreement with the approach taken by the organizers.

The demonstration, held in February, saw the participation of numerous football enthusiasts who rallied together to address the perceived challenges facing Ghanaian football.

Led by a group of journalists, the demonstration aimed to shed light on the pressing issues within the football ecosystem and called for a restructuring of governance to tackle these challenges effectively. The organizers presented a detailed 15-point petition to key stakeholders, including Parliament, the Sports Ministry, and the Ghana Football Association, urging for swift action to address the issues at hand.

However, Nyantakyi voiced his dissent, suggesting that the demonstration was unnecessary and could have been replaced by a more diplomatic approach. In an interview with Onua TV, he remarked, "I don’t agree with the Save Ghana Football demonstration. The protest was not necessary. They should have just put the petition on paper and sent it to the GFA."

Acknowledging the decline in Ghanaian football since his departure from the presidency of the GFA, Nyantakyi expressed his concern over the country's performance on the international stage. He noted, "Ghana football declined since I left. Since 2019, we have always exited after the first round or even in the group stage. So if you draw a graph, you’d see a steep slope."

Nyantakyi's remarks shed light on his perspective regarding the recent demonstration and his assessment of the state of Ghanaian football in recent years. Despite his disagreement with the approach taken by the demonstrators, his acknowledgment of the challenges facing Ghanaian football underscores the need for collective efforts to address these issues and revitalize the sport in the country.
