Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kingsley Osei Bonsu has revealed that he had a change of heart after personally observing crowd violence.

According to Bonsu, he initially opposed the split but his stand changed after seeing how hooligans carry out their treacherous acts during games which wrek's the image of the country.

Football hooliganism has been a major issue in Ghana since the early 2000's, with Zone 1 notoriously known to be a precinct of hooliganistic activities.

Speaking at the GFA's Meet the Press event in Sunyani on Friday, August 9, the Chief Executive Officer of Bechem United narrated his change of mind.

"I resisted the attempt to divide zone 1 in the Kwasi Nyantakyi era due to some acts of violence. But when I saw blood, I mean real blood, I vowed to ensure that zone 1 would be divided," Kingsley Osei Bonsu stated.

The GFA whistled and gave insight into the current state of the league and the measures being taken to put an end to crowd violence, and as a result of these, Division One League Zone 1 has now been split into Zone 1A and Zone 1B.
