Black Stars boss, Otto Addo has confessed his team has been very poor when it comes to defending, judging from the recent two matches played against Nigeria and Uganda.
The Black Stars conceded four in two matches with his attacking line also scoring three goals which clearly indicates the problem is mainly with the backline.
Otto Addo, in his first game since his return was against Nigeria where he suffered a 2-1 loss last Friday, before playing a disappointing and pulsating 2-2 draw with Uganda in his second game, all in Marrakech, Morocco.
Speaking on his defence, the enterprising tactician has admitted they were weak defensively in the two matches played and believes it was mainly due to lack of communication.
Optimistically, he added everything will improve if all the injured defenders like Daniel Amartey, Alexander Djiku and Mohammed Salisu, recovers for the subsequent matches.
"We conceded too many goals that is right and I think the defensive line as they played today game and the other games haven’t played together and you could see the communication amongst the players was not as good as we wanted to have. Truly it’s difficult if key players in that role are missing. But like I said, I got a lot to see today and I also saw who can be an option and may be who is not. We will be monitoring the players in the upcoming months and we will make the right conclusions for our upcoming matches in June. We have to improve in our defensive positioning, closing gaps, recognizing situations and taking the right decisions defensively. Like I said counter pressing, closing gaps, defending in the last third and passing lanes was not that good but we have to work on it and do better next time."
The Black Stars will regroup in June to play against Mali and Central African Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
