Former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe has applauded the Black Queens for their spirited display despite falling 2-0 to England in Tuesday night’s international friendly at St Mary’s Stadium.
The encounter, which was England’s final match of 2025 was a competitive affair, with the Lionesses securing victory through their superior finishing. Ghana, however, impressed with their growing strength and resilience against one of the world’s strongest sides.
Taking to social media after the match, Baffoe expressed pride in the team’s performance and called for increased investment and support for women’s football.

“Black Queens, we have a team! Let’s support women’s football to the maximum… our ladies are solid!” he posted.
Baffoe's sentiments echoed those of head coach Kim Lars Björkegren, who praised his players’ commitment and progress despite the result.
“As a coach, you always want to win. But we are 67th in the world and faced a team that may be the best in the world right now. We can be proud of our performance, and we feel we are moving in the right direction,” he said.
The Black Queens will now look to build on their encouraging showing as preparations continue for upcoming competitions in 2026.
