Sports Minister Kofi Adams has strongly defended the dedication of Black Stars players, insisting their commitment to the national team remains unquestionable despite the setback of failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana’s failure to qualify for the continental showpiece, which was the first absence in more than two decades has sparked debate among supporters, with some questioning the attitude and focus of the squad. The Black Stars’ recent struggles in major tournaments have only intensified scrutiny.

But Adams says such criticism is misplaced, pointing to the team’s successful qualification for the 2026 World Cup in North America as proof of their commitment.

“Black Stars players are more than committed,” he said. “I only wish we had made the AFCON so people could truly see the level of dedication within this team. Their commitment goes beyond just training; it’s about preparing themselves and giving Ghanaians a real sense of what this team represents.”

He added that discussions with the Ghana Football Association are ongoing to ensure preparations - from camping to logistics - involve and benefit supporters across the country.

The Black Stars will know their 2026 World Cup group opponents on Friday, 5 December 2025.
