Basake Holy Stars left Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park with a precious point after holding Bechem United to a scrappy 0–0 draw in their Ghana Premier League gameweek two clash on Sunday afternoon.
In truth, this was a match short on quality but high on grit, with neither side able to find the composure needed in the final minutes of the match.
Bechem United, who were solidly backed by their home fans, carved out the brighter part of possession early on but were painfully wasteful in front of goal. The Hunters managed six efforts in both half's but it yielded no shot on target, with Augustine Afranie Mensah and Darlvin Yeboah both firing over the bar from promising positions.
Holy Stars, meanwhile, looked the more organised unit. Their menacing counterattacks down the left flank unsettled Bechem’s backline, with Prince Tweneboah testing keeper Benjamin Asiedu before the break.
The second half followed a familiar pattern, with Bechem huffing and puffing but failing to produce end product. Evans Adotey’s Holy Stars enjoyed 58% possession compared to Bechem’s 42% and controlled large parts of the midfield through George Kissi Nana and Jacob Boazee.
However, despite their dominance, the big Holy could not break the deadlock, with Francis Oteng’s long-range effort easily saved by Asiedu.
The result leaves Holy Stars unbeaten after two games, while Bechem United remain without a win following their opening-day defeat to Bibiani Gold Stars.
Bechem United will look to bounce back and register their first points of the season when they travel to face Heart of Lions on Saturday, while Holy Stars will aim to continue their unbeaten run as they prepare to meet Asante Kotoko. Both fixtures are scheduled for Saturday, September 27.
