A hot and sultry midweekof Premier League action descended upon us as the new Ghanaian topflight season begins to shape up and click into gear nicely.
There is already a lot of stake at either end of the table as teams begin to feel the pressure.
Here’s a look at four things we learned from the best of the action.
Hamza Issah runs the show during win over Medeama
As the Phobians recorded their second win of the season, there was one man who stood out in an otherwise low key match in Accra. Issah was superb for the home side during the 3-1 win. The forward has been praised for his efforts already this season, and he was top class against the reigning Ghanaian champions.
He held his own alongside the toughest of centre-backs, but rather than his physique, his guile and intelligent positioning enabled him to outwit defenders.
His uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time meant the bidding forward scored two of the three goals his club scored. His two goals is the third of the season after scoring against Bibiani Goldstars last week.
Abdul Manaf Umar is still far too good for Nsoatreman
Nsoatreman fans won't thank us for saying this, and they'll rightly point to the fact that after eight games, they're currently occupying first place in the Premier League - but...
Abdul Manaf Umar is proving himself to be far too good for the Nsoatre based side. He was effortlessly brilliant in the 1-0 win over Kotoko on Thursday, making more tackles and interceptions than any other player on the pitch.
He also contributed at the other end, snatching the ball deep in Kotoko'sterritory before supplying Stephen Diyou's clincher. Surely there's a top-six club crying out for his skillset?
And to think, he joined Nsoatreman as a free agent makes it more interesting
Mintah on another level for Aduana once again
It was a offensive masterclass from Isaac Mintah on Wednesday. The Hunters just could not get near the marauding forward and that was enough to inspire all three points for the Ogya family.
There will, of course, be tougher tests for Mintah, and he does still need to prove himself in the big matches, but this was a performance to be enjoyed once again.
The Aduana man scored a brace and his seventh of the season in six games. He was too good for a Bofoakwa defence that did not have the legs or energy to prevent him time and space.
Heart of Lions unbeaten streak comes to an end.
Heart of Lions entered the game as the only team in the league that had not experienced a defeat yet. As Premier League returnees, they had drawn their previous six games, remaining undefeated, but unfortunately, that streak came to a bitter end with a 2-1 loss to Accra Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday.
Now that they have tasted their first defeat of the season, it remains to be seen if this setback will serve as a catalyst for them to secure their first victory of the season this coming weekend. Only time will reveal their response to this defeat and whether it will propel them to a triumphant performance.
We will anxiously await Heart of Lions' next match to witness how they bounce back from this setback and strive for a positive outcome.
