In the eagerly awaited clash between Hearts of Oak and reigning league champions Medeama, Hearts' coach Martin Koopman made a surprising tactical substitution that caught the attention of the Accra Sports Stadium.
Koopman explained after the match that the decision to replace Hamza Issah, who had scored two crucial goals against the formidable Medeama, was necessitated by a sudden bout of stomach discomfort.
However, this unexpected move did not impede Hearts of Oak's performance, as they went on to secure a commanding 3-1 victory.
Koopman reflected on the team's performance, saying, "At home, yes, the last game before this one was also okay, but sometimes it's a football show. They like to play football, and they must wait a long time, but now they see that if you have patience and we worked on it during training sessions to come back into the game."
He continued, "It asks a lot from the fans, I know, but now you see what can happen in a few weeks. It was unfortunate that Hamza was ill at halftime; he had a stomach problem and needed to go to the toilet. I asked where Hamza was, and they told me he was in the toilet, so I had to make a change. But you can see the qualities of Hamza; he has something of Romario, low to the ground and turns very fast. I like him very much. It was a pity he had to be substituted, but all the other players performed well."
