Karela United has responded to recent media reports alleging that the club owes its players salaries for five to nine months.
The Ghana Premier League side’s Public Relations Officer, Sey Mubarak, has clarified that the actual amount owed is approximately three months, not the extended period suggested.
“The story making waves in the media is coming from players the club has decided to move on from and did not register.
"What the club owes is from the end of the season until now, which is for about three months. That is what I know, and that is what is really confirmed: we owe the players, and some bonuses are included."
He explained that the club currently owes salaries from the end of the last season to the present, totaling about three months, including some bonuses.
"Quotes about the club owing players for about 5 to 9 months are not true. From the start of the season until June, no player is owed salary.
Karela United, which underwent ownership changes last season with former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu taking over, has also relocated to Tamale. The team will kick off their new Ghana Premier League season this Sunday with a home fixture against Asante Kotoko in Nalerigu.
