Former Asante Kotoko winger, Emmanuel Gyamfi has reiterated that he never ended up as a rebel leader during his time in Kumasi and gave insights of what really happened including how he began facing challenges at the club
The mercurial winger joined the Porcupine Warriors prior to the commencement of the 2016/17 season - which is definitely the biggest club he’s played so far in his career
The 30-year-old wasn’t really lucky with his spell at Kotoko having had most of the seasons ended abruptly due to the ‘Number 12’ expose and the novel coronavirus pandemic
Yet still, Gyamfi was an integral member of the team’s FA Cup winning squad in 2017 and also added up the Normalization Committee Special Cup which replaced the league in the 2018/19 season
Speaking on ‘Pramaso’ on Kumasi-based Opemsuo Radio, Gyamfi revealed what really started causing him problems when he joined Kotoko and affirmed he was never a rebel leader at the club
“Life was good at Kotoko because I settled down so quick and became the supporters favourite. I started facing challenges at Kotoko off the pitch when I disagreed to join the agency of our then CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah. He wasn’t happy and decided to make life there a living hell.
“I was never a rebel leader at Kotoko as speculated. I only asked for my signing on fee and I never threw a light bill receipt anybody. It’s all false.”
Emmanuel Gyamfi played for Legon Cities in the just-finished season marking his second spell with the club and has previously featured for Aduana Stars and Armenian topflight club FC Shirak.
Gyamfi, is currently one of the most experienced players in the Ghanaian topflight having made 160 appearances in the Ghanaian topflight with 30-goal involvements (22 goals and 8 assists)
