Ghanaian young-sensation Christopher Bonsu Baah has confirmed our earlier report that he will be moving to the Middle East to continue with his career in a recent interview has affirmed he is not making the move because of money
The 20-year-old, who turned 21 on December 14 last year, is set to sign a five-year contract that will keep him at the Saudi Pro League side until 2030. The deal, which will begin with the 2025/26 season, comes after an agreement was reportedly reached between KRC Genk and Al-Qadsiah for a transfer fee of €15 million. The update was shared by Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri via his X (formerly Twitter) account
The perception has been there that players are only attracted to the Saudi Pro League due to the good salaries they pay but the skillful winger said he isn’t joining Al Qadsia because of that but rather feels it is the perfect platform for him to develop his game
“Moving to Saudi is not just about money or anything. It is about me progressing in my football career.”
Bonsu Baah joined Genk from Norwegian club Sarpsborg 08 ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. In his debut season in Belgium, he made 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 5 assists. His energetic performances and creativity on the flanks quickly made him one of Genk’s standout young talents.
His rise at Genk follows in the footsteps of fellow Ghanaian winger Joseph Paintsil, who also shone at the club before sealing a move to Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy.
Bonsu Baah’s excellent form earned him a call-up to the Ghana national team for the Unity Cup, where he featured in the third-place playoff against Trinidad and Tobago.
Al-Qadsiah, who finished fourth in the 18-team Saudi Pro League during the 2024/25 season, are strengthening their squad for a bigger challenge next season. The acquisition of Bonsu Baah is seen as part of the club’s broader strategy to inject youth, pace, and quality into their lineup as they look to build on their impressive campaign, which saw Al-Ittihad emerge as champions
