On-loan Asante Kotoko youngster at Celta Vigo, Bernard Somuah Bernard, has opened up on the difficulties he went through when he first arrived in Spain, but still managed to acclimatize to the conditions along the line.
The teenage sensation prodigy will continue his development in Spain after officially extending his loan spell at La Liga side RC Celta Vigo from Asante Kotoko for one more season.
The new agreement, confirmed by both clubs, includes an option for the Spanish outfit to make the deal permanent at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Somuah, who initially joined Celta Vigo's youth setup on loan from Asante Kotoko in August 2024, impressed the Spanish side’s technical team with his pace, direct play, and ability to create chances from wide areas. However, his performances have earned him a continued role in Celta's plans for the upcoming season, especially with the club focusing on nurturing young talent for their first team and B team squads.
Speaking in an interview, the 19-year-old admitted he found life very difficult when he first arrived in the European nation as everything was different from where he was nurtured in Ghana having faced with injuries as well but still managed to settle down at some point in time.
“Moving from Ghana to Spain, everything was different. From the players and the facilities, everything is different. I had a difficult time in Spain. I wasn’t getting playing time in my early days, and getting injured also made things worse at the initial stage,'' the talented youngster stated.
“But I worked hard in training and improved my game day after day, not just in training but in matches. That made my coach very happy. I have improved my finishing, my pace, and my jump as well,” he added.
Somuah featured 29 times for Celta B this season in the Primera Federacion having scored 5 goals and assisted 4 times with 21 chances being created with 47 successful dribbles and 83% passing accuracy.
The 2025/26 season will be a crucial one for Somuah, who will be hoping to break into Celta Vigo’s senior side or secure a long-term contract in Europe.
