The Dutch giants have tied down the talented shot-stopper of Ghanaian descent to a long-term contract after attracting serious admiring glances from suitors this summer
Dutch-born Ghanaian goalkeeper Rome Jayden Owusu-Oduro has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract extension with Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar, the club have announced.
The 21-year-old glovesman, who was given serious attention by suitors in this current transfer market, is now set to continue with his long stay at the AFAS Stadion after inking a fresh term which is due to expire in mid-2030 as confirmed by his boyhood club.
''ALKMAAR- Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro has broken open his contract and extended it. The AZ 1 goalkeeper is now contracted until mid-2030. It means double celebration, because in addition to his extension, he also celebrates his birthday on this day,'' an official statement over the contract extension read.
The Ghana-prospect goalkeeper said after extending his stay via the club's official website: ''You don't do that every year. It's a great moment, not just for me, but also for the club. That we did this together again. You see the plan that AZ has: AZ has confidence in me, I have confidence in AZ. Then it's not difficult to say 'yes'. I've played at high levels and it's been very good to do that at a young age. For me it's important now to keep with much more experience and much more guts this season.''
Sporting director Max Huiberts added: ''It is fantastic that a young, talented goalkeeper was given the opportunity to become the starting goalkeeper at AZ 1 last year. We are very happy with the fact that he sees his future at AZ. He is a very stable personality, a boy who remains calm in all circumstances. That is a very pleasant quality for a goalkeeper. We were not afraid to offer him the opportunity at this young age and we see enormous progress. He will gain even more confidence, keep more easily outside his goal area and take more initiative on the ball.''
He figured in 30 league game appearances for AZ in the recently concluded 2024-25 football season.
Having played for The Netherlands U16, U20 & U21 national youth teams, the Purmerend-born last line of defense still remains fit to play for Ghana on the international stage.
