Former Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah says he really thought through the decision to strip Asamoah Gyan of the armband, as he insists that nobody lives Gyan more than him.
Kwesi Appiah stripped Asamoah Gyan off the Black Star' captains armband at the eve of the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Asamoah Gyan announced his exit immediately from the national team before the Government and the Ghana Football Association(GFA) intervened for him to rescind his decision.
He was made the general captain with Andre Ayew serving as the main skipper.
Ghana exited from the round of 16, after Tunisia defeated the Black Stars on penalties.
Kwesi Appiah says he thought through before stripping Asamoah Gyan of the captain's armband to Andre Ayew.
"I see captaincy as when you are on the pitch you represent the coach and take command of all the players," he told Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV.
"The decision that I took I sat and thought about it and at that time nobody loves Gyan more than me.
"During my tenure, he helped me along the way he was the one striking. When we were going to the Cup of Nations in South Africa John Mensah was the captain. That time John wasn't in Ghana so I called him and told him John I have moved you to general captain I am giving the captaincy to Asamoah Gyan. I took that decision when I took the decision then I informed the authorities that this is the decision I have taken," he added.
